Emeritus Professor of Plant Physiology We have been able to initiate cultures from Miscanthus immature inflorescences that are capable of producing large numbers of regenerated plants for periods of several months. Regenerable suspension cultures have also been initiated that grow faster that the callus cultures. Transformation attempts via particle bombardment have been initiated with optimal condition being determined by measuring transient expression of the beta-glucuronidase gene. Three different selectable marker genes are being investigated.
